Vested interests not liked quick dispensation of justice: Deposed CJ

Vested interests not liked quick dispensation of justice: Deposed CJ KARACHI: Deposed chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry here on Saturday said vested interests did not like quick dispensation of justice in the country.

Addressing members of Karachi Bar Council, he said the former rulers were not in favor of quick dispensation of justice to the people which led them to create judicial crisis in the country.

He praised the sacrifices of Karachi-based lawyers offered in the line of lawyers’ movement and added, “I still remember the gloomy moment when I once visited Karachi and was accorded by 50 dead bodies of innocent people and lawyers here in Karachi on May 12, 2007”.

Iftikhar hoped the sacrifices of the lives of lawyers laid down for accomplishing the success of lawyers’ movement will not let go in vain.
“Nation has got the democracy in the country on the price of blood of Karachi’s sons who were killed on May 12,” he claimed.

“Today, the heirs of those killed on May 12 must have remembered the day their loved ones were shot dead on the streets of Karachi,” he said adding that the many of the judges of Sindh High Court were punished over taking suo moto notice of the killing and carrying out a judicial inquiry into the incident.

“No one has dared to touch that file after November 03 that has now been put on the backburner,” the deposed CJ observed.

“We were providing justice to the masses that was not acceptable to those who had their interests in the matters we settled down while performing our duties,” he noted.

He reminded that judges, who intended to take notice of May 12 tragedy, went through troubled waters. “Justice Sabihuddin together with other judges had to pay the price as they tried to bring those responsible for May 12 incident to justice.”

Deposed CJP questioned, why no action has yet been taken against the dictator who deposed 60 judges on November 3, 2007?

He informed the dictator became unhappy with the judiciary working before November 3, 2007 because it raised the cases of people who went missing during the malicious regime of dictator and hurdled the illegitimate privatization of Steel Mills.

Those who were dreaming to stay long in power have now been deprived of that, Chaudhry said and maintained that the act of deposing judges by a dictator was aimed at getting five more years for his illegitimate rule.
