MELBOURNE: Australian batsman Michael Clarke has been ruled out of the One-day International series against South Africa due to thumb injury.
Clarke despite the injury played in the first ODI against South Africa at the MCG which Australia lost by three wickets. He made19 runs but the injury got worse and was told to rest for two weeks. Thus, he cannot take part in the remaining matches of the series.
He has been replaced by David Warner, who will play his first One-day International on Sunday.
Warner starred with a breathtaking 89 in the opening Twenty20 and was kept as cover for Clarke before being sent home to Sydney on Thursday when the vice-captain appeared to recover from a problem sustained during the Perth Test.
However, Michael Clarke said that he would be available to the team for the series against New Zealand which would begin from February 1.
