MUMBAI: Kenya's Kenneth Mugara beat two of his countrymen to win the Mumbai Marathon with race course record time Sunday in the city's first major public event since terror attacks on India's financial and entertainment capital last year.Mugara set a scorching pace to win in two hours, 11 minutes, 50 seconds and break last year's record by 13 seconds in hot conditions.
Mugara was followed by fellow Kenyans David Tarus and defending champion John Kelai. Kelai won at Mumbai in 2007 and 2008.
Ethiopia's Haile Kebebush won the women's race in 2:34.08 seconds, with compatriot Marta Markos in second place and Kenya's Irene Mogaka finishing third.
Nearly 35,000 people took part of in the 26.2-mile (42.16-kilometer) race, the half marathon and a popular 4.35-mile (7-kilometer) run.
