Govt. undertaking counter-terrorism agenda seriously: Sherry

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Sherry Rehman Monday said Pakistan itself was a primary target and victim of terrorism and its government was undertaking counter-terrorism agenda very seriously in the interests of country’s own national security. She was talking to a delegation of International Crisis Group (ICG) headed by its President, Gareth Evans, who called on the Minister here.

On the regional situation in the wake of the Mumbai attacks, Sherry reiterated Pakistan’s stance on terrorism and its commitment to international cooperation to jointly combat extremism and counter terrorism.

“Pakistan has been consistent in its offer to India for cooperation and conducting joint investigations. We have asked India repeatedly not to let Mumbai reverse the peace process, and our stance is supported by the international community,” she said and added the world needs to understand the constraints that present government was working within to hunt down and bring to justice perpetrators of Mumbai and several other acts of terrorism that exclusively targeted Pakistan.

Later, she told media that recent events in Gaza hold important lessons for India and Pakistan, and both countries need to resume their composite peace dialogue to jointly fight terrorism.
